Written shortly after my grandfather "Farfar" passed away. He was very musical and also very supportive to my dreams and passions for music.

IF YOU WERE HERE
Words and Music by Tage Plantell
Stored away in the boxes these moments have been captured
Trapped underneath dust and forget and the darkness
I caught a glimpse back in time and I saw you
It’s apparent to me that once you were young too
You played violin and could dance and could sing too
But you worked so hard even harder than three other men
If you were here you could see what has turned into me
And if you were here you would be so damn proud of me
If you were here with me now
He'd reply “fair and warmer” when you asked how he was
You know by the lines around his eyes when he smiled that you could trust him
He had a heart of gold and was built like a Viking
We’d sit in our chairs and sip coffee in the silence
He sift through his stories and tell tales of the time since
He didn’t hear all that well but I’d enjoy just listening
He’d seen a ghost sometimes when no one else could see em
He knew things about the future and all we hadn’t dreamed of yet
And just before he died he spoke to me
Between the coughs and pain he gently whispered
Anything in life worth getting is gonna take some work first
“I know that you’ll make it” he said “you’ll see”
We’d sit in our chairs and sip coffee in the silence
He sift through his stories and tell tales of the time since
He couldn’t hear all that well but I’d enjoy just listening
What would you do if I sang out of tune
Would you toss me a line or just leave the room
Now that he’s gone and his joke’s they have ended
His voice and his laugh they still ring in my head
I’ll never ever forget you
